Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference on a white paper titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions" on June 17.
Wang said the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) has evolved from a Chinese proposal into a platform for international cooperation and is gaining broader support worldwide. To further advance and implement the GGI, China will focus on four areas of work this year.
Revitalizing open regionalism
China will host this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. The event will serve as an opportunity to strengthen trade, connectivity, innovation, and development, promote the building of an Asia-Pacific community, and promote regional peace and prosperity.
Strengthening governance in emerging areas
New challenges are constantly emerging in frontier areas. Key issues include how to ensure that technology serves humanity, promote the beneficial and inclusive development of AI, advance sustainable development and the global green and low-carbon transition, and maintain the stability and smooth flow of industrial chains, supply chains, and international transport routes. China will work with the international community to build consensus and explore innovative governance mechanisms to address these challenges.
Enhancing governance platform development
China initiated the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation and has already seen some early success in resolving international disputes. More countries are encouraged to join the organization and contribute to the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
China is also applying to host the secretariat of the Agreement on Biological Diversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) in Xiamen, striving to make greater contributions to global ocean governance.
Building consensus on global governance
China will host the inaugural Xiong'an Global Governance Forum this autumn, inviting representatives from various sectors around the world to jointly discuss ways to reform and improve global governance, and to build broader international consensus for a more just and equitable global governance system.
