According to the 2025 Fujian Marine Ecological Early Warning and Monitoring Bulletin released on June 8, the marine ecological environment in the province has shown a stable and improving trend. 

In 2025, Fujian used satellites, drones, ships, buoys, and fish-raft platforms to build a 3D marine monitoring network, producing scientific, complete, and accurate results.

The marine ecosystem remained largely stable. In summer of 2025, 797 species of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and benthic organisms were identified in Fujian's coastal waters — 91 more than in 2024 — with biodiversity indices showing a fluctuating upward trend. Red tide occurrences and their maximum affected areas hit record lows in recent years.

In 2025, the province's typical ecosystems remained in good condition. Coastal environments were stable and suitable, while key habitats such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds all performed well.

Marine ecosystem protection has been further strengthened through measures such as the "Blue Bay" restoration initiative, the near-complete eradication of invasive plant species, the rescue of aquatic wildlife, and the release of 11.94 billion units of hatchery-bred aquatic organisms into the wild.

Technology is being used to improve the efficiency of marine resource utilization. By establishing the Fujian Ocean Innovation Center, the Marine Biological Industry Research Institute, and 126 high-level marine innovation platforms, Fujian is accelerating the adoption of new technologies and products, driving the marine economy toward a greener, higher-end direction.

Biodiversity is being protected through regulated aquaculture, strict fishing bans, artificial coral restoration, and zero-carbon smart island planning.

Efforts are also underway to host the BBNJ Secretariat in Xiamen, and to convene the Conference on Blue Carbon and Innovation in Fuzhou.
