The 2026 World Oceans Day and China Ocean Day campaign kicked off in Xiamen on June 8. Under the theme "Guarding the Blue, Seeking Strength through the Sea", the event brought together marine experts, scholars, NGOs, and business leaders from around the world.
Through outcome releases, science-related presentations, platform launches, cooperation agreements, and cross-sector dialogues, participants explored ways to protect the ocean and advance sustainable development.

The event featured several highlights. Key outcomes from the UN "Ocean Decade" were released, showcasing China's latest progress in marine research. An academician gave a presentation on cutting-edge ocean science. The National Ocean Awareness Education (Xiamen) Base was inaugurated. A public participation platform for marine biodiversity was launched. The results of the 15th National Marine Knowledge Contest were announced, along with the release of Atlas of Islands in China's Sea Areas.
These initiatives created new ways to engage the public in ocean science and conservation.
Meanwhile, the Fujian Ocean Innovation Center signed deals with Danaher Corporation and ISTRONG Technology to turn marine research into real-world applications. A cross-sector dialogue explored how to balance ocean protection with development.
The 2026 Xiamen Initiative for World Oceans Day and China's National Ocean Awareness Day was officially released as well, calling on all parties to work together to protect marine ecosystems, develop marine technology, and improve ocean governance to safeguard our blue home.
